Uršulė Barto

Uršulė Barto (b. 1994 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian theatre director. Barto has worked as a freelance theatre director in various theatres in Lithuania where she directed readings, audio plays and fashion shows. She was assistant director to Yana Ross and Matthew Evans (Forced Entertainment). In 2021 The Ministry of Culture of Lithuania awarded her with the "Young Artist Prize". Bartos plays are described as humorous feminist pieces, that explore the female identity within patriarchal worldviews and ever-changing society as well as the influence of cultural and societal movements onto society's hierarchal processes and manifestations of religious archetypes in atheist societies. Barto deconstructs classic plays by Shakespeare, Chekhov, and Ibsen, for example. In the season 2022/2023 Uršulė Barto is a resident director at the Berliner as part of the programme “WORX”.
