Katharine Mehrling
The actress and singer is equally at home on the stage of the Komische Oper as in the intimate Bar jeder Vernunft.
She studied acting and musical theatre at the London Studio Centre and the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York. She made her stage debut in London's West End, at the Old Vic Theatre, in the anti-war musical "HAIR".
She has lived in Berlin since 2000, where she has won the audience award "Goldener Vorhang" as Berlin's most popular actress 6 times, among others for her roles at the Komische Oper, the Renaissance Theatre or the Schlosspark Theatre.
In 2016, she was awarded the Berlin Bear, the BZ Culture Prize.
For her portrayal of Fanny Brice in FUNNY GIRL at the Bad Hersfeld Festival's Stiftsruine, she was awarded the Great Hersfeld Prize by the Critics' Jury as well as the Audience Award in summer 2019.
She devotes herself to her love of jazz, Edith Piaf and French chanson in her concerts and on several CDs.
Together with the legendary jazz clarinettist Rolf Kühn, she produced her album "AM RANDE DER NACHT" with her own songs.
She also gives concerts internationally, such as at the Palais Beauharnais in Paris, Joe's Pub at the Public Theatre New York or at the Edinburgh International Festival, where she presented - with Barrie Kosky at the piano - her Kurt Weill evening "LONELY HOUSE".
In 2022 she was Artist in Residence at the 30th Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau and opened the festival with "DIE SIEBEN TODSÜNDEN" by Brecht/Weill. In the same year she performed it on stage at the Konzerthaus Berlin with the Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester conducted by Vladimir Jurowski.
After the great success of "LONELY HOUSE", Katharine Mehrling returned to the stage with a staged Kurt Weill Liederabend "MEHRLING! KOSKY! WEILL! ... und mit morgen könnt ihr mich!" to the Komische Oper Berlin.
In "FREMDER ALS DER MOND" she can be seen for the first time at the Berliner Ensemble.
