Dressed as a man, Beatrice travels to Venice to search for her beloved Florindo. As chance would have it, her servant Truffaldino also enters Florindo’s service. Before long, Truffaldino finds himself tangled up in various difficulties, and his dire initial situation (he’s hungry!) devolves into increasingly complicated imbroglios. With the "Servant of Two Masters", Goldoni intended to create a piece of entertainment full of explosive comedic fuel but with no moral message at its core. Director Antú Romero Nunes escalates Goldoni’s basic comedic arrangement and provokes mistaken identities and ambiguities which gain in acuity and topicality when observed from the perspective of an all-female cast on 19th century male stereotypes.
