How could progress have come to this point? The environment is destroyed, society is divided and fragmented – and, even more importantly: How can we make our way back out of this state? With both satirical exaggeration and oppressive realism, British dramatist Dennis Kelly sketches the development of a new movement across five generations in this play commissioned by Berliner Ensemble: The Regression. The movement is directed against exploitation of the soil, against gene manipulation or mo- bile phone radiation; it combines rational reasoning with esoteri- cism, valid protest with propaganda. And they want to turn back to a simpler and clearer language; ignorance is a blessing and everything was so much better in the olden days. No? Yes, they were. Or were they? Well, what is it?
