"Radio Nacht" (Radio Night), the latest novel by Ukrainian author Yuri Andruchowytsch, tells the story of an opposition activist at a time of twilight of hope for radical change. The political developments of recent years in Ukraine, the climate crisis and the pandemic are presented in a surreally exaggerated guise, making them more realistic than ever. Just as the protagonist broadcasts his radio programme in deep conspiracy and concealment, Andruchowytsch’s performative reading is combined with electro-acoustic improvisational music by the Polish trio Karbido. The auditory theatre evening, which approaches the art of radio plays, is the latest instalment in their 20-year collaboration. Andruchowytsch's "book, that sounds" will be performed for the first time on a German stage.
