Why am I who I am? Is it because I made the independent decision to be like this or because society made me who I am? "One alone is no one", Brecht adjudges in his comedy "Mann ist Mann": Who we are is determined by the relationships with our peers and by the world we live in – or maybe by our free choices after all? Brecht’s play from the 1920s shows the transformation of the packer Galy Gay: a simple guy who falls in with a group of soldiers who have good use for him. They reassemble Galy Gay "like a car" – and he is happy to be reassembled. With a company of acting students, Max Lindemann stages Brecht’s play about how easily identities can be manipulated.
