The femicide of the Kurdish Jina Mahsa Amini, who was killed by the state in September 2022, has triggered an ongoing, nationwide public uprising of women (and men) that is unique in the country’s history of protests. This time the Islamic Republic is confronted with their most fearsome enemy: women. Based on contemporary sources and personal anectodes Alireza Daryanavard and Mahsa Ghafari tell the story of the Iranians 100 year long history of resistance. The chronology reveals the influnce that the protests that have taken place, largely unnoticed, over the last decades have had on the current revolution.
Alireza Daryanavard is an Iranian director, writer and curator who explores themes of resistance and activism. For his plays, which he writes by himself or in collaboration with authors, he draws on his own research, interviews, archives and original sources.
