For her stage adaptation of the relentlessly autobiographical six-part work "Min Kamp" by Norwegian author Karl Ove Knausgård, director Yana Ross has selected fragments from the first two parts "Sterben" (A Death in the Family. My Struggle 1) and "Lieben" (A Man in Love. My Struggle 2) as well as from the final part "Kämpfen" (The End. My Struggle 6). This last part is the most radical: The internal struggles of the author, son, husband and father end in an analysis of Hitler’s "Mein Kampf", which he finds in his father’s estate. His domineering father’s profoundly distressing and yet liberating death was the impulse for Knausgård’s to write "Sterben" (The End). ). In "Lieben" (A Man in Love), Knausgård himself is the father of three small children and is drawn into the equally dramatic and banal contradictions inherent in modern fatherhood and a loving relationship with equal rights – challenging the concept of patriarchal artistry.
